The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced the discovery of human remains in a desert area outside of Tucson, Arizona.

While the discovery sparked immediate questions regarding the high-profile abduction of Nancy Guthrie—the mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie—the agency posted a statement confirming there is “no indication they are connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”

The search-and-rescue team found the remains near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard. The remains appear to have been at the location for an “extended period of time.”

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood on January 31. Her abduction case, which captured national attention, remains unsolved after more than six months.

Phase Status: Initial Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood. Police reported no signs of forced entry at the scene.

The Unsolved Catalina Foothills Abduction

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has perplexed federal and local investigators. The Catalina Foothills is an upscale, low-crime neighborhood north of Tucson, making a targeted home abduction extremely rare for the region.

Despite multiple community tips and K9 tracking campaigns, no physical trace of Guthrie has been recovered from the surrounding desert areas.

The Ransom Note Mystery

The release of ransom details in July shifted the case toward a homicide investigation, though investigators remain cautious. True-crime analysts point out that ransom notes claiming the victim is already deceased are often used by abductors to stall search efforts, leaving hope that Guthrie may still be found alive. Pima County deputies continue to seek any tips from the public.
